May 2017

April BCMA meeting held in London

The first BCMA meeting of 2017 was held in London on the 26th May and was attended by 16 representatives of our membership including 2 new members. There were a number of key topics on the agenda including, a look back at 2016 and the outlook for 2017, continued development of the association and its increasing membership and a proposed exciting change to the profile, image and future development of the association (more information on this will be announced in the next 2-3 months).

All attending members agreed that 2016 had been a difficult year due to challenging market conditions and a very uncertain political oultook, however, 2017 had started very well indeed. The interconnect market appears to be very bouyant at the moment with a number of key siginificant projects coming to fruition and general demand exceeding expectations. Overall the membership felt that 2017 could see significant double digit growth in their businesses. What was interesting was the apparent trend for customers and markets to demand more value added services from their suppliers and that has seen some significant changes in the members revenue streams in 2016 and continuing in 2017.

Of course the political landscape continues to be volatile with elections taking place throughout Europe and in the case of the UK we have both a general election in June and the commencement of our negotiations to exit the european union, this has resulted in much shorter order books for most members and as such a need for much more short term planning. When 2018 was discussed everyone really thought this was very much an unknown but generally there was some doubt that the 2017 trend would contiinue.

We had an excellent speaker, Ian Ashley, at this meeting from a company called "The Change People" who gave the members an interesting and challenging insight into change management and customer retention.

With the association membership continuing to grow everyone felt that there were exciting times ahead and a real opportunity to have a significant impact on how the Interconnect market and suppliers develop in the future.

New full member announced.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of ODU UK as the latest BCMA member. ODU UK is one of the leading international suppliers of connection systems. Interconnect solutions from ODU ensure reliable transfer of power, signals, data and media in numerous growth application areas such as medical, military, security, and energy as well as established sectors such as industrial, test and maeasurement and eMobility.

Nick Harper, ODU UK's Managing Director stated "We are pleased to join the BCMA at an exciting time in its development, and appreciate the opportunity to improve the supply-chain options for our UK customers. Becoming part of the BCMA fits neatly into our strategic planning for the UK market….. as a small, independent 'problem solving' connector manufacturer, having our ear-to-the-ground is extremely important in the development of our products and services – we see BCMA membership as part of that ongoing process. We look forward to further expansion of the BCMA and to future networking with all of our colleagues operating in the UK connector and harnessing industry.”more information can be found at

John Biggs, BCMA Chairman, commented, "I would like to extend a very warm welcome to ODU UK as the newest member of the BCMA. ODU are an excellent addition to what is already an impressive membership list and they will add further to the continued rapid growth and development of the association. With the BCMA membership continuing to grow at an impressive rate ODU have joined at a very exciting time in the associations future plans"
